KAPILVASTU INTEGRATED AGRO FARM located in banganga
municipality-1,Nibuwa,kapilvastu,Nepal. Questioners has been done with one of
the member of integrated agro farm Mr. Rahul Banjade of age 27 and currently a

years experience on fish farming. Agrofarm had rented 32 bigha land in which
fish farming is done in 6 bigha and remaining is for cattle farming and vegetable
cultivation.

Pond information
Total pond area is about 6 bigha i.e. 120 kattha which
comprises of 6 ponds of about 1 bigha ie.20 kattha having pond depth of about
15 ft. The main source of water for pond is rain water and irrigation canal.
About 50 kg/pond lime is used before fish stocking and total of about 300kg
lime is used before fish stocking.
Pond inputs
Integrated Agrofarm have polyculture type of culture system
i.e. cow farming and fish farming and vegetable farming. Cow farming provides
dung to fish farming as form of organic manure and fish farming provide pond
water rich in manure to vegetable farming and biproducts of vegetable or itself
vegetables is utilized by cow farming. SILVER
CARP(Hypophthalmichthys molitrix),BIGHEAD CARP(Aristichthys nobilis),ROHU(Labeo rohita),NAINI(Cirrhinus mrigala),COMMON CARP(Cyprinus carpio),GRASS CARP(Ctenopharyngodon idella). Fish seed is
procure from both private hatcheries(main,FROM BAHADURGUNJ AND BHAIRAHAWA) and
government hatchery. No actual data of stocking density is obtained because
they have bought these pond from previous owner and pond already consists of
many number of fish but Intergrated agrofarm have used 11,000 fish seeds in 6
bigha area. They have culture period of about 9 months. Fish are stocked in
falgun to jestha and harvest from mangsir to magh. Stocking size of fish is
about 30 to 50gm. Private feed suppliers are main source for procure feeds.
About 2-3 tractors/pond per year of organic manure(cow dung) is used in pond
which is about 2500 kg.
Amount of DAP used is more than urea. 300 kg of DAP And 120kg urea is
used in fish pond per year. There are no use of aerators.
Feed
Mainly bran(rice
bi-products), pina(oil bi-products)
and floating type feed is used.
About 2 ton of Bran+pina and 400kg of Floating type feed is supplied to fish
per year with feeding frequency of 1 time a day with feeding rate of 10-15kg/10000 fish of 30-70mm in length of fish and 1.5-2.5kg/10000 fish of more than 100mm length fish. Feed are
directly throw in pond in one place. For GRASS CRAP Banana leaf and Bar-seem grass
is used.
Production
Total production of about 2.5 ton ie. 2500kg was done in which
100kg are used for consumption and 200kg are given free to others and total
sale of 2200 kg was made.

Economics
A. VARIABLE COSTS
4 labours are kept for fish farming at the rate of
Rs.7,000/month and annually cost Rs.3,36,000. The cost for 300kg lime is
Rs.3000. 11,000 fish seed are used which charge Rs.1 per seed cost Rs.11,000.
Rate for 1kg pina is about Rs.35 and rate for 1kg Bran is Rs.24 and for
floating feed is Rs.62/kg and total cost for 1 ton pina,1 ton bran and 400kg
floating feed is Rs.35,000 ,Rs.22,000 and Rs.24,000 respectively. The cost for
120kg urea(Rs.18/kg) is Rs.2,160 and 300kg DAP(Rs.22/kg) is Rs.6,600. Organic
manure is free of cost as it is obtained from cattle farming. The total cost
for equipment s consisting cemented vessel, tray, mahajal, power trailer and pump-sets is Rs.4,39,200.
Source of water is from rain water and irrigation canal which is generated from
diesel fuel. Bolero pickup is used for transportation. Bolero and
generator consumed 200litre diesel at
rate of Rs.90/litre and cost Rs.18,000. No means of electricity is required as
generator is used in fish farming. No medicine and chemicals are used in ponds
yet. Land lease for 6 bigha land annually is Rs.75,000. Integrated agro farm is
run by shareholder without lending loan from bank so there is no any interest
on working capital.
TOTAL VARIABLE COSTS =Rs. 9,71,000
B. INCOME
Total fish sale of about 2200kg is done at the rate of
Rs.250/kg which costs about Rs.5,50,000. About 100kg fish is consumed and 200kg
fish is given free to others which costs Rs25,000 and Rs.50,000 respectively.
TOTAL INCOME = Rs.6,25,000 GROSS MARGINS =- Rs.3,46,000
8. Fish disease
There is no any fish disease or fish problem have noticed
yet.
CONCLUSION
This KAPILVASTU
INTEGRATED AGRO FARM is newly opened business farm whose motive is to earn
income through fish farming. In their first year they have got loss gross margin of
about Rs.3,46,000 which is worst according to bussiness point of view. But this
farm have high potential of producing fish as new equipment have been bought
from India. They have modern aerators which they will used in successive year
and have mahajal and many more for harvesting fish. They have made plan of making feeds in
their own farm which will reduce variable cost and increase gross margins. They
have made plan of bringing fish seeds from renowned hatcheries and also made a
plan for separate farming of grass crap from other fish species. They have plan of establishing own fish fresh house for selling fish meat.
